Cure for the Uncommon Cold

The miracle, or the power, that elevates the few
is to be found in their industry, application,
and perseverance under the prompting of
a brave, determined spirit.
— Mark Twain

Johnny at rehearsal in Sun Valley,
fighting a terrible cold, high altitude, and smoke-infused air
from recent forest fires. He wowed the crowd that night
with brilliant performances, and wowed them again
at the lengthy post-show meet-n-greet
with his graciousness and humor.

More pics from
this series below!

Yes!! Johnny is back with more commentary
this Sunday, April 13, for Worlds 2014!
He’ll be reunited with co-Dream Team members
(regular NBC, not NBC Sports Network)
at 4 pm EDT. Don’t miss it!

IMPORTANT!!
Johnny has a new official
Facebook fan page
Please go “like” it now!
The old hacked page has now been deleted,
and the “likes” transferred to the new page.
Yay!!

Dear Johnny,
we believe in you,
we support you, and
we love you always.

Note: Candles last only 48 hours, so please visit often
to keep the love and light shining...

So I realized yesterday, as I ventured out into the weak late-winter pall of Chiberia, joyously wearing, for the first time in months, just TWO coats instead of the usual three-plus-heavy-face-shrouding-scarf (BTW you know you’re living in perpetual Winterfell when you take your dear friend to The Loop and while you’re both shivering to death at a stoplight like characters Dickens has completely abandoned because your chilblains are just too depressing for him to contemplate anymore, she murmurs, “Wow, it’s REALLY cold here,” and you look at her with awestricken horror as you remember that she has just arrived here from ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA. I am not making this up) that we are long overdue for more outdoor skating picspam of Johnny.

So here you go: sun-drenched Johnny, the remedy for all things uncommonly cold and yucky.

He’s not very smiley in this series because, as noted above, he was not feeling well. But his intense focus and determination to dig deep and push through are equally beautiful in their own way.

(If you need me, I’ll just be here all weekend huddled near the warmth of these pics because Weirsus only knows when I’ll ever experience that again in real life...)

Johnny in Sun Valley:
Rehearsal, Part 4.

Preparing to jump
as a young fan photographs his every move.
You can tell we’re nearing the end of his practice
because he has now pushed his meggings up
to his knees to combat the heat.

Watching him rehearse is one of the great joys
of attending a Sun Valley show.

While the crowd is sparse at first,
more start to gather as word spreads
throughout the resort that he’s on the ice.

Stopping to chat with fellow skater Ashley Clark
and the really nice photographer guy
whose name escapes me now.
And also to blow his nose. Again.

Back at it.

The kids, in particular,
are absolutely enthralled with him.

That shirt.

(This photo and the next are amazing.
As if you’re standing right there, although then
you feel bad for how miserable he looks.)

More onlookers have arrived,
cameras at the ready.

Seriously, that shirt.

At the photographer’s request,
he stops to join the others for a group pic.

Ryan Bradley, Erin Reed, Craig Heath,
Jozef Sabovcik, Elena Leonova, Andrei Khvalko,
Johnny, Ashley Clark, and Brian Boitano.

And then it’s back to work again...

The final set from this photo series coming soon!
